The once-familiar scent of coffee in the office now turned his stomach. He felt a constant low-level headache that throbbed behind his eyes, a dull ache that seemed to intensify with every passing hour. He felt as if he had been running a marathon, without ever actually moving.

He found himself losing track of his thoughts, struggling to concentrate on even the simplest tasks. His usual quick wit had abandoned him, leaving him feeling sluggish and slow-witted. The interview for the promotion had been a blur of forced smiles and hesitant answers.
